The Healer in My Bloodline Says
"The Healer in My Bloodline Says" is Courtney Symone Staton's first published chapbook of poems. Each poem serves as a messenger guiding Courtney's journey into finding her voice and keeping it. After a two-year hiatus from poetry, these poems represent Courtney's attempt to write herself to freedom, journeying through grief, love, anger and remembering the lessons of her Black, Southern familial lineage along the way.

Dedicated to all of us using art on the way to getting free. This is a spoken word poem called ‘Milwaukee’ performed with Museum of Poets. Video by @tymefloc
This is a poem I wrote over a year ago trying to figure out how I felt as a Black person watching and hearing about the bombs Israel dropped in Gaza. This poem has been performed at protests, stages dedicated to raising money for people in Gaza, and in rooms full of people in solidarity and those who were not yet. I am putting this video here as an archive and as a way to remind myself what our protest can sound like and look like when we engage in it together. Free Sudan. Free Congo. Free Palestine. Free Turtle Island. Black Lives Matter. Liberation to all.
