Reclaiming the Campus, Reclaiming the Y

In January of 2020, a man entered the Campus Y building, a hub for service, social justice, and activism on campus, and defaced the building. He left swastikas on the Campus Y walls, wrote the names of Campus Y leaders on the board, and left a tombstone in the lobby.

In response, students from UNC-Chapel Hill gathered to reclaim their campus. I was grateful to be included in this process as a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus. Each of the photos below is demonstrative of only a fraction of the student organizers' power and resilience. It was powerful for me to be able to witness and attempt to capture their power and their stories through these photographs.
